Home Port Veterans Transition Home is a non-profit organization started in 2016 by Major George Brown USMC (Ret) and others as a means of providing homeless veterans with shelter, case management, transportation, and referral services to help them reintegrate into civilian life.  Eight veterans found their way to Home Port that first year.  Now, we have an average of 45 to 50 veterans and veterans with families living here each month.


Home Port has leased the old Villager Lodge motel in Macon, Georgia.  The hotel has 100 units available for use of which approximately 50 have been renovated.  Our goal is to renovate the rest as well as the area designated for the counseling and training center.

We currently have laundry facilities available and a food pantry that provides toiletries, paper products and cleaning supplies in addition to food.  Church services are offered every Tuesday and Thursday evening and counseling sessions are also available as needed.

Tommy Barron, Jr., a 13-year veteran and former resident stated "It's a big problem among vets trying to find a place to stay. There are many veterans in Macon living on the street but now, [I] don't have to be one of them.".

Another Home Port resident described the program’s impact this way: "This helps in between where I'm trying to get another place to live and, you know, kind of get the rest of my VA benefits. So many veterans are down now.  They don't see a future...Home Port is a nice place, clean, to lay my head, to feel safe and comfortable.".
